Comply with ISO 23875 with BMair

Mining is tough, dusty, and high-risk. ISO 23875 is the international mining standard that defines how cabin air quality must be kept safe for operators. But what does that mean in practice? And how can you make sure your machines comply?

ISO 23875 compliant

What is ISO 23875?

ISO 23875 is a global standard for air quality systems in mining operator cabins. The standard sets requirements for:

• CO₂ levels
• Particle filtration
• Cabin pressure retention
• Monitoring and alarm functions

Goal: to continuously protect the operator from harmful particles and gases such as fine dust and CO₂.

Core requirements of ISO 23875

1

Fine dust must be minimized

• Max. 25 µg/m³ respirable dust inside the cabin
• Dust concentration must drop back below this level within 120 seconds after a peak

2

Positive cabin pressure is mandatory

• Minimum 50 Pa during operating
• Maximum 200 Pa (for comfort and safety)

3

CO₂ must be actively removed

• Maximum allowed increase: +400 ppm above ambient air
• First alarm at 1,000 ppm, second at 2,500 ppm, both adjustable to environmental conditions

4

Continuous monitoring is required

• Real-time pressure, CO₂, and particle sensors
• Both visual and audible alerts

5

Filters must be certified and tested

• In accordance with ISO 29463
• Clearly labeled and traceable

How BMair helps your organization meet ISO 23875

ISO 23875 sets clear requirements. With the BMair Protector, we offer a total solution that fully complies with every aspect of the standard. Our protective ventilation systems are designed specifically for heavy industrial and mining applications, forming a complete, certified air quality system.

Fine dust eliminated

To comply with fine dust limits, the BMair Protector is paired with the AirHub: an internal HEPA filter unit with an integrated particle sensor. The AirHub operates fully automatically: when particle levels reach 50 µg/m³, the airflow increases automatically to capture particles inside the cabin, ensuring that concentration levels fall below ISO limits within 120 seconds. This guarantees continuous dust protection in the cabin.

Stable overpressure in cabin

The Protector continuously maintains a stable overpressure of 50 Pa, fully within ISO 23875 requirements. This effectively keeps contaminated air out while ensuring a comfortable working environment for the operator.

Automatic CO₂ extraction

When CO₂ levels rise, the BMair Protector automatically increases airflow to expel cabin air. The ‘Flush’ function reacts in two stages. At the first alarm (+300 ppm), pressure rises from 110 Pa to 150 Pa. At the second alarm (+1,000 ppm), pressure increases further from 150 Pa to 195 Pa. Audible alerts sound at both high and low ppm levels, ensuring the operator is never exposed to elevated CO₂ concentrations and safety is never compromised.

Full real-time monitoring

The Protector continuously tracks all critical parameters. You’ll receive automatic notifications about filter status, airflow, system pressure, and CO₂ levels, all accessible through our online BMair Connect portal. Visual and acoustic alerts keep both the operator and maintenance teams informed at all times.

ISO-certified filters

All filters used are certified according to ISO 29463, clearly labeled, uniquely serialized, and fully traceable, so you can always be certain you’re working with compliant components.

Always proof of compliance

With the BMair Protector, you’re fully demonstrably compliant with ISO 23875. With a single click, you can generate digital reports and system history automatically stored in BMair Connect, providing transparent compliance proof at any time.
